Working & Homeschooling

how to make it work

More working parents are deciding to homeschool and they’re making it work. Be encouraged if you’re on this journey and learn what you’ll need to have it all come together.

More parents are discontent about their child’s education and have decided to take control. With some creativity and more available resources than ever before, parents are stepping out knowing they have options.

It takes courage to homeschool. But it takes faith to get us through the tough times. Step #1…PRAY!

We all hope our child knows what to do if someone is hurt or upset. Now you can equip your child to make sure he knows.

We often feel our kids will be more successful if they’re involved in sports and extracurricular activities. Then we complain about our crazy schedules and end up feeling like we’re not home enough to do what we should be doing. It’s time to say, “No!”

Often times we believe the lie that the busier we are, the more productive we must be. Then why do we feel exhausted, lacking direction and question whether we got anything important done at the end of the day? We’re doing too much of the stuff that we shouldn’t be doing.

Have a team in place whose job is to support you a a homeschooling parent.  They don’t have to agree with what you’re doing.  They just need to be there when you need help.

CONsidering homeschooling?

EASIER THAN YOU THINK

Asking you to really think about your “Why” if you’re considering or have already decided to homeschool your child(ren).  That answer is pivotal in moving you forward and not giving up.

Take the time to know your answer to your “Why.”  Why are you considering homeschooling? Or, “Why do you want to homeschool?”  Whatever your answer, write it down, read it aloud and simply reflect on your answer. This exercise will speak volumes to you.

Setting boundaries and rules early in your homeschooling will make going on this new journey a whole lot easier.

The key to getting started homeschooling smoothly is to set rules with your kids and enforce them.  If you don’t do this, expect chaos.

Expect to be overwhelmed at all the methods, tools, resources and curriculum available to you as a homeschooler. Choose wisely by taking it slow as you begin your incredible journey.

I wouldn’t recommend starting with formal curriculum.  Simply play and observe your child for a couple of weeks and enjoy each other before jumping in.

Each state has its own homeschool laws so you should know what they are in your state.

Knowing the way your child learns best is crucial as you homeschool your child. He’ll have more fun learning when you apply his learning style to everything you teach.

When you discover your child’s learning style, you will be able to help your child tremendously moving forward.  This discovery will be a gift you give to your child.

If creating a schedule makes you somewhat nervous or a bit overwhelmed, that’ll change after you’ve created what will be a tool you’ll never want to live without from now on.

Once you create a schedule that works for you and your family, you’re going to look forward to massaging your schedule so much that you won’t know how you ever lived without one.

This task may appear intimidating but necessary if you want to experience success in your homeschooling. Setting goals is lot of fun and easier than you think!

Having a designated learning space even if it’s small, will make all the difference as you homeschool.

This exercise is a lot more simpler than you think, esp. if you use your state or educational standards.

Parents naturally find it easier to care for others than themselves. That has to change as you homeschool.

Self care.  The better you care for yourself, the better “model” you can be for your child. This is the longest lesson for a reason.
